Robecq

Robecq is a common French, located in the department of the Pas-de-Calais and the area Nord-Pas-de-Calais.

Etymology

The area counted formerly among the large grounds of culture of the flax. Robecq could thus mean the “red brook” or the “brook of steeping”, of the Flemish grinds (red) or root (retting pit) and of beke/beek (brook). The river which irrigates the village, the Clarence (the clear river), was to then tint russet-red packages of flax put to steep.
