Rob Roy (Romance)
Rob Roy (1817) is a novel of Walter Scott telling the history of Frank Osbaldistone, wire of an English merchant who goes in the Scottish Highlands to obtain the payment of a debt due to his father. Rob Roy MacGregor, the character éponyme of the novel, appears in the book at several places, but he is not the main character (makes some, the intrigue moves in Scotland only towards half of the novel).
Introduction to the intrigue
The history takes seat at the time of the rebellion jacobite of 1715. The intrigue made the object of criticism on its aspect little linked, and its end, bâclée, like always at Scott. Some critical were disappointed that Rob Roy was not presented under one day more impressive; however, in general, criticism was eulogistic.Rob Roy was written during spring 1817 and was published the Hogmanay (December 31st) of this year. Like Waverley, it was published anonymously and occupies three volumes. In front of the success of the novel, a boat, containing anything else only one whole edition of the novel, was chartered with Leith for London. Scott had visited the Loch Lomond and the cathedral of Glasgow to prepare its book.
As for the film Rob Roy , the hero is inspired by a real character, but the history is entirely fictitious.
