Rob-Vel

Rob-Vel , of its true name Robert Velter , (February 9th 1909, Paris - April 27th 1991, Saint-Malo), was an author of Cartoon.

Beginnings in the cartoon 1936-1937

Chief of row on a steamer, it meets the American bedeist Martin Branner of which it becomes assisting it for the boards of Winnie Winkle . Of return in France in 1936, it creates under the pseudonym of Bozz the character of Subito for Small Parisian the . In 1937 it animates the adventures of the character of Louse, cartoon headlight of the newspaper of the same name. the adventures of Louse are scénarisées by the proper woman of Rob-Vel, Davine. It is this cartoon who draws the attention of the Belgian editor-printer Dupuis which wants to launch a newspaper of cartoon for youth.

Rob-Vel and the Newspaper of Spirou 1938-1943

Contacted by the Dupuis editions for the launching of the Newspaper of Spirou , it creates the character of Spirou, kid mischievous and débrouillard, red-headed like a squirrel, inspired in that by the double direction of the Belgian familiar word. It signs this cartoon of the name of Rob-Vel. It also creates for this weekly magazine the series Bibor and Tribar and the gags of Turkish slipper, while his Davine wife creates the Zizette series. After a series of gags in a board, it embarks Spirou in its first long history as of 1938: it is Spirou and the Heirs .

The release of the Second world war returns difficult the communications between Rob-Vel, mobilized, and the Dupuis editions. It is his/her friend the painter Luc Lafnet who works on crayonnés and scenarios that Rob-Vel sends face so that the rate/rhythm of publication of a board per week is respected. After the death of Lafnet it is Davine which continues Spirou, by strongly accentuating the realistic side of the series, until the interruption of the weekly magazine be 1940. Wounded then made captive, Rob-Vel is injoignable when the Newspaper of Spirou appears again: it is Jijé which deals with the series until in March 1941. On this date, Rob-Vel takes again the reins of its character and connects the adventures which strongly evolve to imagination and the science fiction with Spirou on the planet Zigomus . After the prohibition of publication which strikes the Newspaper of Spirou in 1943, Rob-Vel decides to sell its character with the Dupuis editions which entrust to Jijé the responsibility of take the changing again.

Post-war period: Bibor and Tribar, Subito and Nimbus

After war, it develops the misadventures of Mr. Subito for the daily press until 1969. It takes again its characters of Bibor and Tribar in the Pierrot weekly magazine as of the Occupation then again of 1947 to 1951. It animates several childish bands in periodicals like Lisette, the Astute one and Cheer in the years 1940 and 1950. It takes again in 1971 the character of professor Nimbus d' André Daix under the collective pseudonym of " J. Darthel".

At the time of the 33 years of Spirou, it finds its groom the time of a nostalgic short history of 4 pages with the participation of (future) the prolific Cauvin scenario writer. In 1975 at the time of the exit of two albums out of the ordinary of Spirou taking again the stories written by Rob-Vel, this one in vain entrusts to have proposed new boards with the Newspaper of Spirou post-war period (it draws in 1978 for this weekly magazine an advertisement " the week prochaine").

It is devoted to the illustration, signs stories in the Journal of Mickey under the name of " Bozz" then its retirement in Brittany close to some Jean-Claude Fournier takes… With its death in 1991, the Spirou weekly magazine pays to him homage with the participation of the sucessifs authors of the adventures of Spirou.
