Road train
As its name indicates it, a road train comprises a vehicle Tracteur followed towed vehicles and moving on the ground without the assistance of rails.
During the development of the Road transport, it economically appeared interesting to increase the load transported by the addition of trailers in a way similar to that of an oar of Railroad.
Indeed, the load is limited by the structure of the vehicle and the maximum loading by axle authorized by the regulation.
The problem of the trajectories
Contrary to a railway train of which all the vehicles are guided by the way, a whole of ordinary road trailers (with an axle or with two axles of which a director) do not remain in the traces of the driving towing vehicle if this one has a Trajectoire curve: more the trailer is far away from the tractor plus this one moves on a trajectory of lower curve: it cuts the turn. For this reason the multiple trailers are prohibited with circulation in the majority of the European countries, except exemption in “heavy load”. An exception is often made for the tractor with semitrailer which can have an additional trailer.
The train Fox
The colonel Charles Renard studied a solution for military transport. He deposited a patent in 1903 of a system ensuring a single trace for all the vehicles. Moreover one system of continuous driveshaft made all the trailers driving.Under the name of “ Train Fox ”, this system complexes was carried out and used as well for the transport of freight as travellers. But even in several tens of specimens, it remained with the state of curiosity.
Today
The road train is authorized under certain conditions and except agglomeration in Australia, in the west of the Canada] in Quebec, and with the United States. It is very widespread under the name of Road Train on the rectilinear roads of Australia where it is frequent to cross convoys with three or four trailers. The going beyond is if possible to avoid. In France, the official name of a road train is " a unit made up of a motor vehicle to which a trailer or a semitrailer is harnessed of which before rests on a front-axle unit " In other words, a truck trailer is a road train as well as a double train or a Bi-train. The maximum length of a road train is limited to 18,75m. to ==Voir aussi== ===Articles connexes=== * tyred Tram ===Bibliographie=== * Michel Harouy, of the road train Fox to the modern tram on tires 1902-1999 , article published in the review regional and urban Railroads N° 291 (August 2002) published by FACS-UNECTO of: Road Train in: Road train be: Tren of will carretera fi: Maantiejuna it: Road train ja: ロードトレイン nl: Road train No: Vogntog pl: Pociąg drogowy Ru: Автопоезд sv: Vägtåg [[the U.K.: Автопоїзд| Random links: | Wheelbarrow | Block of powder | Sonia Sudi | Jacques Lanxade | Alexandra Exter | Eddie_Jordanie |
