RoadRailer

The RoadRailer is a system of Transport combined to bimodal American.

It is about Semi-remorque S road resting at their ends on a railway Bogie. The semitrailers are especially equipped with the back with supports which are locked on a specific bogie and in front of a special tiller which rests on the following bogie. A traditional cross-piece of plugging is added at each end of the oar.

The formation of the oar is done by displacement of the first semitrailer which is locked with the bogie of head then posed with before on its feet. An intermediate bogie is brought on the way under the semitrailer and so on.

This solution presents the same disadvantages as the system Wagon kangaroo while putting to the test the structure even of the transported road vehicles, which, in Europe at least, is a major defect.

It is into 1986 that this system was initially adopted with the the United States by the company Norfolk Southern. Since it spread and it is the company Triple Crown which is the leader of this means of transport.

In Europe, an equivalent system was tried under the name of Kombirail , but it seems without continuation. the SNCF has, seems it, acquired in 1992 an American oar which it tested, but without also taking action pursuant.
