Rixheim

Rixheim is a common French located in the suburbs Is of Mulhouse. It belongs to the department Haut-Rhin and area Alsace.

Its inhabitants is called the Rixheimois .

Geography

With 5 kilometers of Mulhouse, with crossed roads of Strasbourg and Mulhouse with Basle (A35-A36 with Sausheim) and of Habsheim to Ottmarsheim (old Roman ways), the commune of Rixheim profits from a privileged situation, in a handle of the Rhenish ditch with the borders of the national forest of Hardt, hills sundgauviennes and alluvial plain of the Ill. Altitudes vary between 365 meters (Zürenwald) and 232 meters (Bridge of the Goat).

June 26th, 1988, a A320 Airbus was crushed on the communal territory of Rixheim, in the forest of Hardt which borders the aerodrome of Mulhouse Habsheim. The plane carried out a passage at very low altitude during an air meeting.

The museum of the wallpaper

The museum of the wallpaper can be visited in Commanderie. Thousands of documents, reporting the history of the wallpaper of the XVIIIe century at our days are visible there, of which the famous panoramic ones, specialities of Rixheim.

Personalities related to the commune

Abraham Israel Dreyfus, postpones grandfather of Alfred Dreyfus was born in Rixheim in 1749. The college bears today the name of captain Dreyfus .
