Riverside Park
Riverside Park is a Parc in the North-West of the island of Manhattan to New York. It is a narrow band of greenery (100 to 200 m of width for approximately 6 km length) wedged between the river Hudson and the Riverside Drive, the boulevard which connects the district of the Upper West Side to Morningside Heights, Harlem and Washington Heights. To its creation, the park did not go to bank, occupied by the way of railroad of the companies New York Central RR and Hudson Line. This one was then covered by an esplanade.
The construction of the park began at the beginning of the Années 1870, within Frederick Law Olmsted, also originator of Central Park. The first stage of work was finished in 1910, but there were other later installations. However, the park was during a time left with the abandonment, and the young person Robert Moses described it like a “dirty and muddy mass”, polluted by the thick smoke of the trains bringing the cattle towards the slaughter-houses of Manhattan. Under its administration, between 1937 and 1941, one carried out work of embellishment there, then the park was renovated in the Années 1980.
Riverside Park is divided into 2 parts: the first extends from the 72e street to the 125e, at the edge of Hudson, and the second of the 145e to the 158e street, beside Riverbank State Park. The be bordering bank are connected to those of Hudson River Park in the south and to those of Fort-Washington Park in north.
