The river Détroit ( Strait To rivet in English) is long approximately 51 kilometers and broad from 1 to 4 kilometers in the area of the Big lakes. It forms part of the Land borders between Canada and the United States. She was baptized the Rivière of the Strait at the beginning, a reference to the fact that the river connects the Lac Holy-Claire to the Lac Érié. However, it is not a Détroit in a strict sense. Its altitude is of 175 meters above the sea level.

The town of Détroit (formerly the Strong Pontchartrain of the Strait ) was baptized name of the river. Today, it provides drinking water for more than five million people. The river crosses the American cities of Strait, River Red, Ecorse, Wyandotte, Grosse Island, Riverview, Trenton, and Gibraltar and the Canadian cities of Windsor, LaSalle and Amherstburg.

The river is spanned by the bridge Ambassadeur, between Détroit and Windsor. The Tunnel of Strait-Windsor, located under the river, also connects the two cities.
