Rivehaute

Rivehaute is a common French, located in the department of the Yrénées-Atlantiques and the area Aquitaine.

Its name inhabitant of Béarn is Ribahauta .

Its inhabitants is called the ribaltars.

The grounds of the commune are sprinkled by the Saison, affluent of the Gave d' Oloron, and by its tributaries, the brooks Laxubie, of Larrunduigt and Bédat.

The toponym Rivehaute appears in the forms Ecclesia de Aribalda and Sancta-Maria de Arribalte (respectively XIe and XIIe centuries, cartulaire of Sorde), Arribalda (XIIe century, collection Duchesne volume CXIV), Arribaute (1323, cartulaire of Orthez), Ribaute (1385, censier of Béarn), Arribauta , Arribahauta , Ribahaute and Ribe-Aute (respectively 1538,1540 and 1548 for the two last, reformation of Béarn) and Nostre-Lady of Rivehaute (1656, insinuations of the diocese of Oloron).

History

Paul Raymond note which the commune counted a laic abbey, vassal of the Viscount of Béarn.
In 1385, Rivehaute counted 26 fires and depended on the Bailliage of Sauveterre.
