Riots of the Sunday, July 12, 1789

Camille Desmoulins, a lawyer and journalist still little known harangue crowd with the Palais Royal and calls it with the weapons against the royal government. Many demonstrations street of Paris and in the garden of the Tileries, the busts of Jacques Necker and Philippe, duke of Orleans (1747-1793) are carried in procession. The Royal-German, regiment of cavalry ordered by the prince de Lambesc, load crowd with Tileries, making several casualties, perhaps killed.

Pierre-Victor de Besenval, ordering the troops massed in Paris, decides to utilize the Swiss regiments confined with the Field-of-March.

Set fire to of forty of the fifty four barriers giving access on Paris: the rioters want thus cause a drop in the price of the grains and the bread - which is on its highest level of the century -.

Plundering of the Saint-Lazare convent where it is said that the grains would be stored.

" électeurs" from Paris (i.e. those which, with the second degree, elected the deputies with the General states join together with the Town hall of Paris. They form a " committee permanent" and decide to create a " militia bourgeoise" of 48.000 men. They will carry a distinctive mark, a rosette with the colors of the town of Paris (red and blue). To arm them crowd plunders the furniture depository where weapons are preserved, but old and of collection.

A delegation of the " électeurs" Parisian goes to the Invalids to ask the weapons of war who are stored there. Refusal of the governor.

The following day will proceed the Storming of the Bastille .
