Rioja

General information

Rioja is a autonomous Communauté north of the Spain, uniprovinciale, without coastal area, crossed by the Èbre and the Oja which gives its name to the area (río Oja). Limited by the Basque Country to north, by the Navarre in north and the east, by the Aragon in the east and by the Castille-and-León in the south and the west.

The culminating point of the province is the San Lorenzo with: 2271 meters (Sierra of Required).

The area is famous for its wines (D.O. Rioja).

Origin

The known oldest traces of settlement of Rioja date from the Neolithic . The monuments megalithic are not rare.
