Rio Tubarão

The Rio Tubarão is a Fleuve Brésil ienne of the south-east of the State of Santa Catarina. It is thrown in the Lagoa Santo Antônio, connected to the Atlantic Ocean, after a course of 120 km.

It is born in the Serra Geral, on the territory of the municipality of Lauro Müller and runs out towards south-east, crossing the municipality of Orleans, Pedras Grandes, São Ludgero, Tubarão and Capivari de Baixo. Its principal affluents are the Rio Laranjeiras, the Rio Braço C Norte and the Rio Capivari (all on its left bank).

Its catchment Area covers approximately 5000 km ² distributes on 18 municipalities of the south of the State de Santa Catarina.

Rio Tubarão, car its current name of the word tubá-nharô (“wild father”), its name in Tupi-Guarani. It does not have thus anything to see with homonymous fish, tubarão (“Portuguese shark”). The river gave its name to the current city of Tubarão, which it crosses.
