Rio Tijucas
The Rio Tijucas is a Fleuve Brésil IEN of the State of Santa Catarina.
General information
Rio Tijucas ( Tiyuco in Indian language) is born in the tightened da Boa Vista at an altitude close to 1000 m, on the territory of the municipality of Rancho Queimado. After having crossed the municipalities of Angelina (where it receives the Rio C Engano), of Major Gercino, São João Batista (where it receives water of the Rio C Braço) and of Canelinha, it arrives at the town of Tijucas where it ends up throwing in the Atlantic Ocean, at about fifty kilometers at the north of Florianópolis.Its course is used for the practice of the Rafting, in particular on the level of the municipality of Angelina. Rio Tijucas crosses there a kind of particularly required Canyon for the practice of this sport.
History
The first European to visit the mouth of Rio Tijucas would be the Italian navigator Sebastien Cabot, in 1530. In 1788, Portuguese soldiers check the navigability of its course. Following this statement, it is named ribeirão C Alferes and is used to reach the town of Nova Trento. In 1847, a precise statement of its course is carried out, of its mouth to the locality of São João Batista, by the soldier João de Souza Mello E Alvim.
