Rio Guaíba

The Rio Guaíba is regarded as much as a river ( Rio ), a Lac or a Estuaire of the State of the Rio Grande C Sul, with the Brésil. It has many characteristics of a lake, but is generally called " Rio Guaíba".

Nowadays, the thesis accepted by the scientific community is that Guaíba is a lake, although it is known like Rio Guaíba. The types of currents, winds and vegetation of its banks do not mislead as for its classification like lake.

Rios Gravataí, Sinos, Caí and Jacuí is thrown in the Delta of Jacuí, then forming Guaíba, which sprinkles the municipalities of Porto Alegre, Eldorado C Sul, Guaíba, Barra C Ribeiro and Viamão. Starting from Guaíba, the Eau X go towards the Lagoa back Patos and, then, towards the Atlantic Ocean Southern.

The name, of indigenous origin, means " place where the river élargit" ( gua : large; I : water or river, river, river; Ba : place).

On the edges of Guaíba, various points of reference of Porto Alegre are, such as the Quays of the port, the Usine of the Gasometer, the Beira-Rio avenue (used by the sportsmen), the Amphithéâtre Pôr-C-Ground, the ruins of Estaleiro Só, the Yacht Guaíba Club, the club Veleiros C Sul and well of others.

The bridge of Guaíba is the bridge which crosses it, connecting the capital to the Southern part of the State and the Uruguay.
