Ring of Canon

In the universe of Stargate, many artefacts Goa' uld, Long-sticks with the Device of the ribbon, are intended to give birth to fear in the heart from the less advanced people. At the time of episode 03.08, SG-1 discovered one of these apparatuses: the rings of Canon .

Report of mission

SG-1 found the ring in a village having many similarities with the medieval European Communities.

The ring was transmitted from generation to generation to Canon, spiritual leader of the village.

Deposed Goa' uld Sokar created the ring and the air platform with ray Zat' nik' such associated to keep the control of planet.

Canon thought perhaps well of making by using the ring, but actually its ultimate goal was to obtain and keep the capacity.

Those which were selected for the “sacrifices” actually were captured by a Unas (that the villagers took for a demon) and were sent to Sokar by the Porte of the stars, to become hosts of Symbiote S Goa' uld.

Capacities of the device

The ring of Canon is able to obscure the sky and to cause flashes. In spite of appearances, it is not the ring itself which causes these demonstrations. They are produced by an air platform with ray ZAT, ordered by the jewel. If somebody is struck directly by the discharge of energy, it risks death. Those which are in a radius of 4 meters are struck. Repeated blows would be able to kill, like the rays of a gun ZAT. Even if it can be a useful weapon, the ring does not allow a high degree of accuracy. It is rather intended to inspire fear with people with little developed technology. Thanks to it, its carrier seems to have divine capacities.

Instructions of operation

Contrary to the device of the ribbon, the ring does not require particular aptitudes. The carrier passes a finger across one of the axial grooves of the ring - the signal of takeoff for the air platform. The way in which the carrier slips its finger determines where the platform will position in the sky. If the finger passes then along the longitudinal axis of the ring in the opposite direction of the body, that indicates to the platform to be placed in front of the user. If it passes towards the left of the horizontal axis, it positions on the left, and so on. when the carrier is ready, it presses on the central button to draw. If one passes by again the finger along one of the axes, the platform is re-initialized. It is possible to make fire on several occasions.

Mechanical functions

According to the specifications provided later by Tok' ruffle, platform ZAT can take off of a hidden position and be ready to draw in 10 seconds approximately. The ring transmits a continuous signal so that the platform can locate the position of the carrier of the ring. In general, the platform planes with approximately 650 meters in height, thanks to a technology antigravity. If the air is sufficiently wet, the platform upwards generates a movement of convection of hot air. The moisture of the air condenses and forms clouds. The platform is fed by an embarked engine with naquadah. Crystals Goa' uld are used as condensers and store necessary energy to produce the flashes. The crystals can “store” up to three discharges of energy.

Given complementary: After episode 03.08, the ring was brought to Zone 51. it was unusable without the platform. Teams SG could not recover this one, the villagers having buried the door of stars.
