Rimshot

The Rimshot (of rim , “circle” and shot , “shooting” or here, literally, “(noise of) shot”) is a technique of battery consisting in striking the edge of the clear Caisse at the same time as the skin, in order to obtain a sound more shining and incisive. It can also be applied to the Tom S. This technique is often confused with the cross-country race-stick (of cross-country race , “crossed”, “transversely” and stick , “rod”), which consists in applying the rod against the skin in order to choke the sound of it and to attenuate resonance of it. One then raises only the end of the rod in order to strike it the circle: the distance enters the olive and the circle varies the height of the note obtained. Its product resembles a click of Métronome very amplified, near to that of the Claves struck one against the other.
