Rimbaud Verlaine

Rimbaud Verlaine (Total Eclipses) is a Belgian independent film , British, French, carried out by Agnieszka Holland and left in 1995. It recalls in a fictionalized way the tortuous homosexual relation between two large French poets of 19th, Paul Verlaine (David Thewlis) and Arthur Rimbaud (Leonardo DiCaprio).

Synopsis

Arthur Rimbaud has died for several years already. In Paris, Paul Verlaine, aged, penetrates in his usual coffee “At André” where it is awaited by Isabelle, the sister of Arthur. She is opposed, estimating to have a right of pre-emption on the works of her brother published without her authorization. In fact, very excessively pious woman, it would like especially to recover them for the expurger or to destroy them… Flashback. We are in September 1871. In the the Ardennes, a 16 year old teenager, Arthur Rimbaud, takes the train at the station of Rocks to meet, in Paris, the poet Paul Verlaine to which it sent some of his works. Whereas Verlaine left to seek it at the station, Rimbaud is presented to its residence where it is received by his young Mathilde wife towards which it is coarse. But Verlaine will be irremediably subjugated by the rebellious and shameless poet. It gives up woman and child to leave with him. Together, they will live, emergency and without reserve, all feelings of the body and the spirit and will express them with their feather…
