Rigoberta Menchú
Rigoberta Menchú Tum was born with Chimel with the Guatemala the January 9th 1959 and received the Nobel Prize of peace in 1992, “recognition of its work for the social justice and the ethno-cultural reconciliation based on the respect for the rights of the people autochtones”.
Its price is based partly on its biography Me, Rigoberta Menchu written by Elisabeth Burgos starting from interviews and published in 1983. Its detractors claim that the book contains many inventions. Its defenders rétorquent that all the inaccuracies are compensated by the importance of its testimony on the life of the Indians to the Guatemala.
Menchú declares that it started to work in the fincas (agricultural vast domains) as of the five years age. Whole families were convoyed in the truck since the mountains towards the coastal plains. This work caused the death of his/her little brother and one of his friends. At the adulthood, it joined members of its family in their action against soldiers concerning their abuses the Human rights. Violence forced it with the exile in 1981. It is a member of the Maya ethnos group of the Quiché S. In 1991, it took part in the preparation by the the United Nations of a declaration of the rights of the people autochtones. It is ambassador of good will of UNESCO. It returned to Guatemala in order to work for the change.
She also sought to consider the ex-dictator military of Guatemala Efraín Ríos Montt, candidate unlucky person with presidential of 2003, in front of the Spanish courts in 1999 for crimes committed against Spanish citizens; these attempts failed, however. In addition to the deaths of the Spanish citizens, the most serious loads carried on a Génocide against the Maya Peuple of Guatemala.

In 1979 it enters the organization which his/her father founded: the CUC (Committee of Country Unit).

In 2007, it announces to want to be candidate with the presidential election of her country, which is envisaged in September. It created movement WINAQ, platform gathering of many Maya movements of all the country and receives the moral support and logistics of the FARMHOUSE, party which brought to the victory Evo Morales as well as the personal support of the 1st indigenous president. Nevertheless, it was eliminated as of the 1st turn, collecting only 3% of the votes.
