Riehen
Riehen is a city Suisse, and one of the three common of the demicanton of Basle-City.
Geography
Riehen is to 6 km with flight-D' bird in the North-West of Basle and belonged to the suburbs of the Rhenish metropolis. If the historical center gives the impression of a large village, Riehen is one of most populated the communes the North-West of Switzerland, after Basle, but before Aarau.The commune is almost entirely surrounded by the German Land of the Bade-Wurtemberg. It is crossed by the Wiese, which, taking its source in the Black Forest, form the German valley of the same name. The border post is located on the main roads leading to Lörrach.
History
The area already was colonized 3000 years front J. - C. With the Life century, the Alamans were established there. The first mention of the name of Riehen goes back to 1113.In 1270, Riehen becomes property of the Evêché of Basle. In 1522, Basle buys the village in Evêché. It then becomes the ground of election of the middle-class rich person bâlois who arrange their residences of countryside there.
Since the separation of the canton of Basle in demicantons, in 1833, Riehen belongs to the demicanton of Basle-City.
During the Second world war, an important part of the population emigrated towards the interior of the Suisse, because of the fact that Riehen, being in the north of the the Rhine, was deprived of natural defenses.
