Riedwihr
Riedwihr is a common French, located in the department of the Haut-Rhin and the area Alsace.
Geography
Riedwihr is a commune of the center of Alsace, in edge of Blind. Crossed north in the south by the secondary road n° 45 and of is in west by the secondary road n° 31. Accessible quickly from Colmar (7 km), two exchangers of the highway A35 serve it, that of Ostheim and that of Northern Colmar.The communes bordering are Jebsheim, Wickerschwihr, Holtzwihr and Colmar.
The village draws its name from its geographical location: it is located at the south of Ried Noir of Illhaeusern. The Alsatian Ried is a mosaic of marsh, meadows wet, extents of Carex and Phragmites, alternating with meadows elevated of a few meters, dry even arid, cultures of cabbages or corn intersected with less and less many hedges, thickets or timberings of alder plantations, ash plantations, poplar plantations or of charmaies, the whole sometimes in mixture. He is traversed of a dense network of phreatic rivers and sources.
History
Riedwihr which appears in 1279 pennies the denomination “Rietwilr” belonged to the Habsbourg then, starting from the treaties of Westphalia, with the crown of France. Goods belonged to it to the lords of Horbourg, to the abbey of Pairis and several convents of which that of Unterlinden. From 1478 to 1709 the village was held in stronghold by the family of Ruest, then until the Revolution by Klinglin. The church, dedicated to Holy Marguerite, was built in 1864. The bell-tower goes back to 1882.
The Second world war with generated extensive damage in the village. The population was thus forced to take refuge in the bunkers at the entry of the village. Located on the round of applause of Wickerschwihr, they are always visible.
