Ridging

The ridging , in Agriculture and Gardening, is a farming operation which consists in bringing back the Ground in the shape of “hillock” to the foot of the Plante S. ridging can have various objectives: it can be a question of reinforcing the emission of adventitious roots to support the growth, or of covering part of the plants to force them to bleach. It is the case in particular Légume S-stems as the Asperge S and the Poireau X.

Ridging is also used in the Vignoble S to counter the black Gelée S of winter (from - 9°C). The stock S are then ridged using a tractor and avoids the massive destruction of the stock. If ridging is easy and fast with a tractor, it is more difficult to withdraw the accumulated ground. The vine growers must then withdraw the ground delicately with the hand to avoid the Moisissure stock caused by the moisture of the ground.

Ridging can be done using Outil S handbooks (Houe) or mechanically using specialized Charrue S (Butteuse S)
