Rickshaw (the Africa-Antilles)

The rickshaw (also called hand-truck or pouss-pouss ) is a cart with two wheels with human traction (Africa and the Antilles) or animal (the Antilles, rarer) being used to transport various goods. With the difference of the Asian rickshaws, these do not charge with people and do not act as taxi. It is in general very cheap means of transport, since it does not consume fuel. The pushers of rickshaw in general show inventiveness to transfer onto their machines of the impressive quantities of goods. Indeed, these machines can sometimes transport up to 600 kilos of goods in human traction (FAO locates the normal load between 200 and 500 kilos). Their operating range (in human traction) is about 10 kilometers.

The operators of rickshaw concentrate in general near the urban shopping malls (Marché S, Douane S, port S) and establish the link between local wholesale dealers and retailers.
