Rick Rubin

Frederik Jay Rubin (born in 1963) is a producer of discs American, mainly known for its work in the medium of the Rap and the heavy metal. He was a major person in the fusion of the rap and the hardware Rock by joining together Run DMC and Aerosmith on the song " Walk this way". MTV gave him the title of " the most important producer of the 20 last années."

The years Def Jam

With the college, Rubin was member of a group called " The Pricks" , and played later in the group of punk " Hose" university of New York, strongly influenced by the group of San Francisco Flipper. In 1982, Hose becomes Def Jam with the exit of its first 45 turns. The group gave some concerts in California but it separated in 1986, Rubin wanting to devote itself to another passion which took much time to him: the emergence of the scene Hip-hop of New York.

With the assistance of his/her friend DJ Jazzy Jay of the group Zulu Nation, Rubin discovers the production in the world of the hip-hop. In 1983, the two men produce the album It' S Yours for the rappor T the Rock'n'roll and leave it under their independent label Def Jam Records. In 1984, the producer Arthur Baker assistance to distribute the album in the rest of the world while leaving it under the label Baker' S Streetwise Records.

Jazzy Jay presented then Rubin to the manager Russell Simmons, the label Def Jam was officially whereas Rubin always attended the university of New York. Among the first produced discs one notes " I Need has Beat" of Cool L J. EP Rock Hardware of the Beastie Boys leaves just after the success which he knew while working with Run DMC. It indeed had the idea to make collaborate the American group of rap with the group Aerosmith on a recovery of one of the first tubes of the " group; Walk This Way". This fusion of the rock'n'roll and the rap was a great success and started again the career of the Aerosmith group.

The years Def American

In 1988, Simmons and Rubin separate, partly because of a fight for the capacity lost by Rubin vis-a-vis president de Def Jam Lyor Cohen. Simmons remained in New York at Def Jam, whereas Rubin leaves for Los Angeles, where it founds Def American Records. Over there, it produces albums of rock'n'roll with groups as System Of has Down, Slayer, Danzig, Masters off Reality, The Cult and Wolfsbane, but also the actor of stand-up very discussed Andrew Dice Clay. It also produces the revolutionary album of the Red Hot Chili Peppers Blood Sugar Sex Magik . It preserves contacts in the medium of the rap while signing with the Geto Boys and while always working with artists like Public Enemy, Cool L J and Run DMC inter alia.

The years American Recordings

In 1993, Def American becomes American Recordings. The first major project for this label is the album American Recordings of the singer Johnny Cash, album which comprises nine recoveries. This album made it possible to the singer to start again his career. The same formula will be repeated thereafter on three other albums of Cash: Unchained , Solitary Man and The Man Comes Around . This last album, published little of time before the death of the singer in 2003, was rewarded by a Grammy Award for the best singer for country. Rubin also works with other singers like Mick Jagger in 1993 on the album Wandering Spirit . It produces also the famous double album Stadium Arcadium of the Red Hot Chili Peppers (2006), and in summer 2006, Rick Rubin starts a work with U2 for their next album.
