Rick DiPietro

Rick DiPietro (born the September 19th 1981 with Lewiston in the Maine with) is a professional goalkeeper of Hockey.

Career in club

DiPietro begins its career of player as a junior in the American team junior in the United States Hockey League into 1997-98 before joining two years later the university championship and the Université of Boston.

In 2000 during the fishing out of entry in the National league of hockey, he becomes the first goalkeeper with being selected as a first choice. It is chosen by the Islanders of New York and replaces Roberto Luongo. He is fourth American of the history of the fishings out to being selected in first (the first was Brian Lawton in 1993).

He then begins his first season in the LNH but in twenty matches he counts only three victories and is thus sent to gain experiment in minor league. Thus, it joined the international Ligue of hockey and the Wolves of Chicago then the Sound Tigers de Bridgeport of the American Ligue of hockey. The year according to, he will play only ten matches in the LNH and only in 20003-04 will be pointed out to be titular.

In September 2005, Newsday writes an article affirming that the team made an offer for a 15 year old contract with DiPietro but the LNH discourages the frankness and in the place, a one year old contract is signed, making it possible Islanders to sign Mark Parrish. But one year later, the 15 year old contract for a total of 64,7 million Dollars is really signed between the two parts. It is about the contract moreover long life ever signed (in front of that of Alexei Yashin with these same Islanders for ten years).

International career

With its fellow-members, Jason Blake and Mark Parrish, it is selected in the team of the United States for the Olympic Games of 2006 with Turin (Italy). It also represented its country in the following competitions:
