Richilde of the Ardennes
Richilde of the Ardennes or Richilde of Provence (towards 845 - 910) is the second wife of Charles II the Bald person, empress of Occident.
Born towards 845, Richilde is the girl of Bivin de Gorze, count d' Ardennes, and the sister of Boson of Provence (cf dynasty of the Bosonides). Concubine of Charles II the Bald person, it marries it in 870 with died of his first wife Ermentrude. She gave to the king a girl Rothilde (v.871-v.928) who married Hugues of Bourges then Roger of Maine
During the absences of the emperor, party guerroyer against the Buckwheats, it manages the country and finds at its head with dead of Charles in 877. It plans to place on the throne her brother Boson, duke of Burgundy, because Louis II the Stammerer (wire of Charles II and Ermentrude of Orleans) dies shortly after his father and his/her children are still too young. Nevertheless, Richilde is shown of inceste with his/her brother and the lords of the kingdom refuse to subject themselves to its authority. It helps then Boson to become king of Provence.
To died from Louis the Stammerer in 879, wire of Charles and Ermentrude, it returns to the capacity, during the reigns of the young people Louis III and Carloman II, then after their death in 882 and 884. But the empire is agitated and threatened by the Normands, and the large ones oblige it to be withdrawn in Provence in his/her brother, where she dies on June 2nd 910.
