Richer of Rheims

Richer of Rheims was a Moine of the Basilique Saint-Remi of Rheims which lived at the 10th century.

He wrote the Four books of history (991-998) known under the name of Histoire .

He was charged by Gerbert (the future pope Sylvestre II), then archbishop of Rheims, to write this chronicle, which extends from 882 to 998. It was redécouverte only in 1833 by Pertz in the library of Bamberg, and clarifies the events relating to the fall of the Carolingiens, the advent of the Capétiens, the irruptions Normans from 885 to 888 and on the fight of Louis d' Outremer and Lothaire with Hugues Large the.
