Richer de Senones
Richer de Senones (1190 - 1266), monk of the abbey of Senones is a chronicler and a historian of the Moyen-âge
Probably born about 1190, Richer is perhaps originating in the Val of Lièpvre. Fine expert of the Alsace and the Lorraine , it makes his studies in Strasbourg. The inhabitants of the Alsace are named the " Teudons". It seems well to know the Val of Lièpvre to have remained several times there. Thus it meets several times the monks of the Prieuré of Lièpvre and on several occasions meets there the Moine S of Saint-Denis which have the dependences there. Perhaps in 1223 it goes to Saint-Denis in company of monks of Lièpvre. It goes also several times to the castle of Bilstein (Urbeis), of Echéry (Sainte Cross-with-Mines) and with the Château of Bernstein. It could belong to the nobility. It enters to the convent of Senones of the time of the abbot Henri (1202 - 1225). It is sent towards 1218 as ambassador to Würzburg of which Thiébault I duke of Lorraine is prisoner of the Emperor Frederic II since the fire of Nancy and the seat of Amance. It also seems to know the Abbaye of Gorze, Toul and Saint-Dié. The chronicle of Richer is known by 9 manuscripts. On the 9 manuscripts, five are copies of the 16th century, two are translations, two are 17th century and one of 1826. The copies come from Senones, Moyenmoutier and Etival.
