Richard de Shrewsbury
Richard de Shrewsbury (August 17th 1473, Shrewsbury - probably died in 1483, Turn of London), was the sixth child and the second wire of Edouard IV, King d' Angleterre and of Elisabeth Woodville. His/her father did it Duc of York and Norfolk.
He was a puîné brother of Elisabeth of York and the king Edouard V.
His/her father did it duke of York in 1474. The January 15th 1478, at the 4 years age, it married Anne de Mowbray (1472 † 1481), countess of Norfolk, which had inherited the vast domains of Mowbray in 1476. Because the ducal title of his/her father-in-law had died out with the death of this last and that Anne could not inherit it, it was made duke of Norfolk in 1481.
His/her father died the April 9th 1483. His/her brother Edouard, prince de Galles, became king d' Angleterre and Richard is heir apparent. That did not last. Robert Stillington, bishop of Bath and Wells, showed that Edouard IV had contracted a secret marriage with Eléonore Talbot in 1461. This one was still alive when Edouard married Elisabeth Woodville in 1464. the council of regency, directed by the duke of Gloucester, concludes with a case from Bigamie, invalidating the second marriage and the legitimacy of all the newborns of this second marriage of Edouard IV. Edouard V and Richard were declared illegitimate and revoked succession with the throne the June 25th 1483. The duke of Gloucester was proclaimed king d' Angleterre under the name of Richard III, like younger brother of the king Edouard IV. The duke of York was sent to the Tour of London by king Richard in the middle of the year 1483. What occurred then with him and with his/her brother is the subject many speculations and debates. In the Years 1490, Perkin Warbeck claimed to be Richard, duke of York, but it was an impostor. Richard can be smallest of the two skeletons discovered in the Tower in 1674, but this assumption is not more certain than another.
