Richard Williamson

Monseigneur Richard Williamson , born the March 8th 1940 in England, is a bishop traditionalist devoted on June 30th, 1988 by Mgr Marcel Lefebvre.

Youth

Graduate of literature in the university of Cambridge, it initially taught in Ghana.

Being converted Anglicanism with the Catholicism Romain, received in the Catholic church in 1971, it enters to the seminar of Écône, of the sacerdotal Fraternité Saint-Magpie X in October 1972. Ordered priest in 1976, it becomes teaching then director of the seminar Saint-Thomas-D' Aquin with Winona in the Minnesota.

The sacring and excommunication

Devoted the June 30th 1988 by Mgr Marcel Lefebvre, it is excommunicated latae sententiae , i.e. by the fact even of the act posed.

The cardinal Bernardin Gantin, prefect of Sacrée Congrégation for the bishops, issues on July 1st 1988 by the decree Dominus Marcellus that Mgr Lefebvre “posed a schismatic act” while devoting without pontifical mandate. In support of its declaration, it quotes the guns 1382 and 1364-1 of the canonical Code of right (1983):

“The Bishop who, without pontifical mandate, devotes Évêque somebody, and the same that which receives the dedication of this Bishop incur excommunication latæ sententiæ reserved for the Apostolic Seat. ”

“The apostate of the faith, the heretic or the schismatic incur an excommunication latæ sententiæ. ”

He thus declares excommunicated Mgr Lefebvre itself, Mgr of Castro-Mayer, the bishop Co-consécrateur, and the four new bishops of which Mgr Williamson. The following day, by the Motu landlord Ecclesia Dei, Jean-Paul II reminds faithful that those which “adhere formally” to the Schisme incur them also the Excommunication.

Ministry after 1988

After its ordination, there remains director of the seminar Saint-Thomas d' Aquin, while achieving a ministry of bishop: confirmation, sacerdotal ordination. It takes part, in 1991, with the episcopal ordination of Licinio Rangel, successor of Mgr of Castro-Mayer to the head of the Union Saint-Jean-Marie-Vianney.

Since 2003, he is director of the seminar of Reja in Argentine.

Talks are always in hand (2006) for the rehabilitation of the FSSPX within the Roman Catholic church.
