Richard Spruce

Richard Spruce is a Médecin and a British Naturaliste , born the September 10th 1817 with Ganthorpe (Yorkshire) and dead the December 28th 1893 with Castle Howard (Yorkshire).

It obtains its doctorate with Berlin in 1864. He becomes associated member of the Société linnéenne of London in 18893. He is teacher with Haxby and Collegiate School of York of 1839 with 1844. He goes on journeys of herborizing in the the Pyrenees in 1845 - 1846 and in South America of 1849 with 1864. He takes his retirement with Coneysthorpe in 1876. He makes appear various articles in reviews of Natural history of which the Journal off Linnean Society or the Annals and Magazine off natural history .

George Bentham (1800-1884) dedicates to him in 1853 the Sprucea of Rubiaceae and Jean Baptiste Louis Pierre (1833-1905) in 1890 the Sprucella of Sapotaceae.
