Richard McKay Rorty (born the October 4th 1931 with New York and dead the June 8th 2007), is a American Philosophe .

Regarded as one of the major representatives of the pragmatic thought contemporary, Rorty developed its thought as well in political philosophy as in epistemology. Claiming as well heritage of William James, of John Dewey that of Nietzsche, Heidegger, Foucault or Quine and Davidson, he claimed to exceed traditional cleavage between analytical and continental philosophers by assuming the heritage of the two traditions.

Liberal as a policy, defender of the democracy, it refuses the metaphysical justification that the Lumières gave principles. According to him these principles cannot obtain any support universal and rational, which carries out it to defend a form of relativism, although it defends and prefers the term of “ethnocentrism”.
