Richard Rahl

Richard Rahl (known also as Richard Cypher ) is the main character of the series the Sword of truth of Terry Goodkind. He is the adoptive son of George Cypher and the young brother (adoptive) of Michael Cypher.

Physical description

Richard Rahl is an young man with thick brown hair, eyes of gray falcon and a powerful musculature. He is larger than the average (perhaps nearly 2 meters, as lets it suppose a passage of volume 9, Chainfire ), with broad shoulders. When the series starts, it is approximately twenty years old. The gray color of its piercing eyes is used on several occasions to identify it in the series. Several women of the series claim that it is one of most beautiful men the than they ever saw. It is, at the beginning, modestly vêtu like a forest guide. Thereafter, it will carry the behavior of Barracus, the last wizard of war: black pants, a black tunic, a gold cape and reinforced greenhouse-wrists of money of leather engraved of magic symbols. It carries to the belt of the purses containing various objects, including two container of white sand and the black sand of wizard. Generally, it carries the Sword of Truth to the hip, in a worked leather cross-belt. Around the neck, it carries among other pendentive Agiel.

General characteristics

Richard always was thirsty to learn, of more, was always a researcher of truth (and of knowledge). He wants to always know the truth of all things. It does not fear the Truth. He has an acute sense of what is well and of what is badly. Its first gifts were a major knowledge of the plants and grasses, just as tracking, the pottery and the shooting with the arc as well as the sculpture. Zedd is as a second father for him (he is his grandfather besides). Richard forever sought the capacity, it always simply wished to be left quiet.

Although it is a Sourcier of Truth, Richard always hated the enigmas (present in the majority of prophecies). He regards them as insults with honesty, and by principle are unaware of them. It unties the enigmas of the life, not the words, although it often needs to do it in spite of him.

With the wire of the series, Richard discovers that it has powerful magic capacities, and that it precisely a wizard of war. This capacity east seems the source of some of its great abilities, mainly its mortal effectiveness with any type of blade, whether that is for the combat or the sculpture.

History

Richard Rahl (called Richard Cypher then) was born and lived in the town of Hartland, in Ground of West. Young man, it avoided as much as possible the conflicts. The death of his/her mother having been caused by anger, it was never authorized to lose its calm, and could make pass people of a grimace to a smile with its simple manners. If the words were not enough to alleviate the spirits, it was rather fast and strong to stop any threat before whoever is not wounded, and if the need were felt some, it was fast with the race. Once become true the Waterfinder of Truth, he learned how to channel his rage by using the sword, decreed by Zedd, which proves to be at the same time the First Wizard of the Regions of the Medium and its grandfather. The Sword of Truth transforms the anger of its carrier into a great power. He also learned how to channel the love in the same way. But he hates that even more than anger, because under these conditions, he can kill no matter whom or not, innocent.

Died of his/her mother

The mother of Richard died in a fire when was very young person, leaving it with a feeling of abandonment which it had has to face again with dead of his father. Before the death of mother, Richard and his brother Michael Cypher played together outside, building wood huts, or having fun to fight with swords out of wooden.

One night, a man penetrated in the house, applicant to be rolled by the father of Richard. Losing its coolness, it reversed a lamp whereas Richard and his brother slept in their room. While the man trailed their father outside by striking it, their mother sought the two children in the house in flames. But it was burned alive when it wanted to go back there to save something. Its cries brought back the man to the reason, which tried to save it with the assistance of their father, but it did not reach that point. Realizing with horror and culpability what it had caused, the man flees while crying and howling that it was sorry.

The father of Richard had explained to him that all that was the result of a man having lost his calm. Michael was unaware of the lesson, Richard taken in heart. This event had instilled in him a major dislike of its own anger, so that it choked it immediately each time it revealed mine.

Richard will discover later that his mother was turned over in the house to save Ghazi, one flame-night of which all the family was unaware of the existence.

Childhood

Richard passed most of his childhood in wood, becoming thus very pointed in the knowledge of the plants, share their aspects if not share their names. He also learned how to know all the paths, hidden or not, of the wood of Hartland, and even those of Venn, who quickly became a second at him, although he only approached very seldom the border. Very small, his/her friend Zedd brought it in wood for shooting parties to the grasses, showing him which to seek, where they pushed, teaching him how and why put names on all that he saw. Since his young age, Richard adored to spend time with Zedd when his/her father was with far, and he liked particularly his account-returned excursions, always strewn with wisdom.

One day, whereas Richard was just ten years old, his/her father returned from one of his voyages. He brought back a book which he entrusted to Richard, asking him to be the guard and the guard about it: the Black book of the Listed Shades. During three years, the Richard young person due to learn the contents from it by heart, before burning it. This fact marked the end of the childhood of Richard, and left it with the responsibility always keep the book in memory, which he saw like an honor. Richard became forest guide, guiding the travellers through the wood of Hartland. The majority of them were dignitaries simply wishing the prestige of a local guide, more than one help to travel. As a guide, he often played plays of track with the other guides, indicator at which distance they could be followed without being made locate. Richard was very gifted, at the same time to track and locate. To avoid being followed, Richard feintait so as to thread behind his prosecutor. He often spent his nights safe from pine companions. He lived in a wood house, built his hands, in wood above the city. Died of his/her father

Three weeks before the commencement of the series, his/her brother learned to him the murder from their father. He warned Richard not to go in the house, but refusing to listen, this last precipitated there. Wanting to save the horror to him, the people on the spot tried to prevent it from entering. It was deafened by the state of destruction of the house and what it remained body sanguinolent of his/her father. The only intact object was an earthenware jar blue which it had manufactured being child, and which his/her father used to leave of the messages when it was on a journey. Inside, Richard discovered a piece of liana. Three weeks later, he discovered similar lianas living and destroying the wood of Venn, in south-east, close to the border. Sorrow submerged Richard. Although being now a man, and having always a brother, it only felt and orphan. It taken not share with the research of the assassin of his father, mainly because of the intervention of Michael. N the other hand, it left only each day with research the mysterious liana snake, while speaking with anybody. Something said to him that it knew something in connection with the reason of died of his father, but it allotted that to the sorrow playing to him of the turns. After three week of research, he discovered finally the liana, high in the wood of Venn.

Meet with Kahlan Amnell

In the wood of Venn, Richard located and saved an young woman continued by four soldiers vêtus of black whereas they were going to assassinate it. As of the first moment, Richard had been struck by his pride, his intelligence, as much as by his incredible beauty. He very quickly became very close friends. Kahlan told to him the history of the Regions of the Medium, explained to him the threat of Darken Rahl and of Boites of Orden. They travel together to meet Zedd, which they discover being the First Wizard. This last designates Richard like true the Sourcier of Truth, and all three start a voyage towards the Passage of the King and the Regions in company of Hunting, chief of the Guards Border and large friend of Richard, in order to find the last limps of Orden and to protect it from the threat of Darken Rahl.

Summary of the character

Richard Rahl, wire of Darken Rahl and grandson of Zedd, have been now the Sourcier of Truth, the Rahl Lord, Master of D' Hara, and a wizard of war, the first for 3000 years. It is a Master with the combat with the sword or the knife, and an excellent sculptor. He is married in Kahlan Amnel, the Inquisitrice Mother.

Like all the wizards, it must preserve a balance in its life. That initially seemed to mean that it was not to eat cheese or of meat, because of the people whom it killed. However, he will realize later that to act thus did nothing but worsen the problem. Its gift of wizard of war does not require a constraint of balance. The extent of its capacity varies fire of wizard to the predictions. It cannot use its magic at will, only according to the degree of need, or its emotions. For example, when his/her close friend and Cara bodyguard were with the doors of death, Richard carried out an impossible thing with any other witch or so powerful wizard is. Instead of curing Cara, it was transported in its spirit, according to its instinct, taken death itself in its spirit and overcame it, tearing off Bites-Sith it dead kingdom ds and bringing back it to the life

Richard is of a honesty without fault, often engaging body and heart in a combat to save his innocent men, friends or people. It would be ready to die to save whoever deserves to live. He is incomparable with the combat, and " dance with the mort" while letting itself guide by knowledge of the preceding Waterfinders of Truth. He will only beat with him thirty Masters of the blade of Baka Ban Mana in singular combat, or another occasion a hundred and fifty armed guards. This last combat it did not use the Sword of Truth, but a traditional sword, proving that steel is only the tool, the genuine weapon being the hand which handles it.
