Richard Pampuri

Richard Pampuri 1897 - 1930, was doctor and member of the hospital Ordre of Jean Saint of God.

Life

Richard Pampuri, from his civil name Erminio Filippo Pampuri, was born close to Pavia, tenth of a family of eleven children.

He lost his mother whereas he was only three years old, and in 1907, his/her father died in his turn. He was then entrusted to an aunt.

Erminio made its primary studies in the village, and came then to Milan for its secondary studies. At the end of those, it joined the medical college of Pavia obtinant in 1923 the diploma of medicine and surgery.

During the First World War, it was useful initially as sergeant, then as officer of the medical body.

Young student, it had adhered to the Société of Saint-Vincent-of-Paul. At the end of its medical studies, whereas it was 24 years old, he becomes initially country doctor, trade which he exerted with enthusiasm and piety into practice putting in his professional life his faith and his acute sense of the Mission. He will say to his sister: “ Requests, so that pride, selfishness and any other bad passion cannot prevent me from always seeing Christ suffering in my patients, so that I can cure it, to comfort it. With this always alive thought in the spirit, as the exercise of my profession should appear pleasant to me and fertile! ”.

It entered finally the hospital Ordre of Jean Saint of God on June 22nd 1927, carried out its noviciate with Brescia and made religious profession on October 24th 1928. He wrote: “ " My God, I want to be useful to you in the future with perseverance and the greatest love: in my superiors, in my fellow-members, in the patients, who your are preferred. Give me the grace to serve them as I would be useful to you. ”. He pronounced his wishes in 1928 and takes the name of FRA Riccardo, Richard brother. He dies two years later, on May 1st 1930, victim of the after-effects of a pleurisy.

After its death, its reputation of holiness grows in all Italy, then in Europe and in the world. Several miracles are allotted to its intercession.

Its mortal remains is preserved and venerated in the parish church of Trivolzio.

Beatification - Canonization

Béatifié on October 4th 1981 by the Pope Jean Paul II, it will be canonized by Jean Paul II also, on November 1st 1989. In his homélie of beatification, the Pope had said: “ the life short, but intense, of FRA Riccardo Pampuri, is stimulative for all God's people but especially for the young people, the doctors and the monks ”.

Its festival was fixed at the May 1st .
