Richard Kuhn (born the December 3rd 1900 with Vienna in Austria - died the 1967 with Heidelberg in Germany) is a biochemist Austrian-German, prize winner of the Nobel Prize of chemistry in 1938.

Kuhn is high with Vienna, city in which it makes its studies. It decides to study the Chimie only tardily while following from 1918 of the courses to the Université of Vienna. It finishes its studies of chemistry to Munich under the direction of Richard Willstätter (Nobel Prize of chemistry in 1915) and obtains his doctorate in 1922 for work on the Enzyme S.

After its diploma, Kuhn undertakes an academic career, initially with Munich, then with the federal Polytechnic school of Zurich and as from 1929 at the university of Heidelberg. It is named with the head of the department of chemistry of the Université of Heidelberg in 1937. In 1928, he marries Daisy Hartmann, with which he will have two wire and four girls.

The scientific work of Kuhn treats in particular Caroténoïde S, Stéréochimie, Vitamine S and Enzyme S. He manages the first to insulate the Vitamine B2. He is prize winner of the Nobel Prize of chemistry in 1938 for his work on the Caroténoïde S and the Vitamine S, price which he cannot receive before the end of the Second world war. Kuhn worked during many years with the Institut max Planck of medical research (one of the 80 research institutes of the Société max Planck) like with the Université of Heidelberg and the Université of Pennsylvania. He was editor of the " Justus Liebigs Annalen der Chemie " starting from 1948, president of the German Company of chemistry and vice-president of the Company max Planck. He is prize winner of the Goethe-Preis in 1942.
