Richard Johnson Mentor

Richard Mentor Johnson (October 17th 1780 - November 19th 1850) is the ninth Vice-président of the United States of America (under Martin Van Buren). Residing in the county of Scott, it is used like representative of the Kentucky with the Chambre of the representatives and the Sénat.

Youth and family

Johnson is born with Beargrass in the county from Jefferson, from now on started from Louisville, and its family moves quickly in the county of Scott. He studies with the university Transylvania with Lexington and is allowed with the bar of the Kentucky in 1802.

Johnson Marie not but maintains a long relation with Julia Chinn, a slave of the family. Together, they have two children: Adaline Chinn Johnson and Imogene China Johnson. His/her two brothers, James and John Telemachus, as its nephew Robert Ward Johnson will be all member of the Room of the representatives, Robert Ward will be even senator.

Military career

Richard Johnson is named Colonel volunteers of Kentucky and order a regiment in engagements against the British in the Low-Canada in 1813. Some personally allot to him the death of the chief Shawnee Tecumseh during the Bataille Thames to rivet it; although the exactitude of this assertion remains very doubtful, Jonhson will make use of it later to support its political career.

Parliament of Kentucky

Johnson is member of assmemblée legislative of Kentucky of 1804 with 1806 and again in 1819. He is elected a denière time in 1850 but dies in Frankfort (Kentucky) shortly after his taking of.

Room of the representatives

Johnson is elected party democrat-republican with the congress of March 4th 1807 at March 3rd 1819. He is president of the Committee one Claims and the Committee one Expenditures in the War Department .

After its passage to the Senate, it returns to the Room of March 4th 1829 at March 3rd 1837. He is president of the Committee one Post Office and Post Roads to be the vice-president of Martin Van Buren after having lost voices of the Great Electors because of his relation with a ex-slave of the family Julia Chinn. He is used as a vice-president of March 4th 1837 for March 3rd 1841.

Honors

Johson is buried with the cemetery of Frankfort, Kentucky. Counties were named in its honor in several States: Iowa, Kentucky, Missouri and Nebraska.

The Comté of Johnson (Illinois) was named in its honor in 1812, before even as he does not affirm to have killed Tecumseh.
