Richard II of Burgundy
Richard the Dispenser of justice (born in 858 - died the 1 {{er}} September 921), was a large feudal lord, at the origin of the first house of the dukes of Burgundy.
His/her brother was the famous Boson V of Provence and his/her sister Richilde of the Ardennes was the concubine and the second wife (870) of the king de France Charles II the Bald person. His/her father would be the bosonide Bivin of Vienna, but certain historians, although of agreement on the fact that Richard the dispenser of justice, Boson V and Richilde of the Ardennes, are brothers and sisters, think that their father would be Théodoric de Vergy, Chambellan of Louis II the Stammerer and tutor of Louis III and Carloman.
Richard married Adélaïde, girl of Welf Conrad II of Burgundy, duke of Burgundy Transjurane, which brought in its dowry the Comté of Auxerre.

Biography
In 875, with died by the emperor Louis II the Young person, Richard with his brother Boson V of Provence accompanies in Italy, the king of France Charles the Bald person who leaves to be made crown emperor by the pope Jean VIII.
The new emperor, Charles the Bald person, names his Boson brother-in-law, duke in Italy, and duke of Provence.
In February 876, with Pavia and before setting out again for the kingdom of France, Charles the Bald person names Boson V, viceroy of the Royaume of Italy.
In 877, Boson V, recalled by Charles the Bald person, turns over to France, but entrusts the Royaume of Italy and the duchy of Provence to his/her brother Richard the Dispenser of justice (missus in Italy and Provence) and to Hugues the Abbot, wire of Conrad Ier of Burgundy and nephew of the empress Judith of Bavaria, wife of the emperor Louis the Piles.
In 880, sincerely and honestly devoted to the king Louis III of France, it carries out the war against his own Boson brother. It pack close to the Saone, puts garrison in Mâcon in the name of kings Louis and Carloman, and gives the government of this city to Bernard Plantevelue, stem of the hereditary counts of Mâcon. After being itself seized Lyon, it besieges Vienna, from which it drove out Boson.
In 881, after the end of the attempt at Boson V of Provence to restore the kingdom of Burgondie, Richard the Dispenser of justice, takes under his protection his/her sister-in-law, Ermengarde, only daughter of the emperor Louis II the Young person, his niece Engelberge, her nephew, the future emperor Louis III the Blind man, and takes them along to Autun, whereas Boson takes refuge in Provence.
In 883, it receives the Comté of Autun, for its services.
After the death of Boson, the January 11th, 887, Ermengarde is named regent of the Royaume of Provence with the assistance of Richard the Dispenser of justice who inherits the “Boson honors”. In May 887, this one led his/her son, the future emperor Louis III the Blind man, near the emperor Charles III the Large, so that it adopts it, which it did.
It carries help to Charles Simple the against Eudes, count de Paris. In 888, in the plains of Saint-Florentin cheese, it pack the Vikings, which had penetrated in Burgundy and had devastated the town of Bèze. In 898, it is authorized by the king Eudes Ier to amalgamate its counties and takes the title of Marquis ( marchio ) (898 - 918), then that of Duc ( dux ) of Burgundy towards 918 - 921. It extends also its control on évêchés of Autun, Langres and Troyes.
With died of Eudes Ier, in 898, Richard is one of large which can claim with the crown, but like the others, he recognizes Charles Simple the as king. Starting from this date, Richard occupies the first place with the council of the king and takes the title of marquis de Bourgogne.
He dies in Auxerre on November 1st 921. On its bed of death, with the bishop who exhorts it be sorry God to have poured such an amount of human blood, he answered him: “ When I made die a brigand, I saved the life with the decent people, the death of only one having prevented his accomplices from making more evil ”.
