Biography
From its true name Richard Walter Jenkins , Richard Burton, is born on November 10th, 1925 in the village from Ponthrydyfen, close to Talbot Port, with the Wales. It is it twelfth of the thirteen children of Richard and Edith Jenkins. It grows in a community of minors of confession presbytérienne, where the Welsh is the native tongue. At the two years age, it loses his mother; it is then his/her older sister, Cecilia, which takes care of him and raises it.
Very early, Richard appears very good pupil, and impassions himself for poetry and the writing. But at the sixteen years age, it is forced to stop the school and to find a work. Its former professor, Philp Burton, which recognizes its talent and encourages it to lose its Welsh accent, adopts it legally and allows him to turn over to study. Richard takes his name then and becomes Richard Burton . In 1943, it is authorized to enter for six months to the College of Exeter, within prestigious the Université of Oxford, because it belongs to the Royal Air Force.
In 1952, Richard Burton becomes famous for his role in My cousin Rachel , of Henry Koster, who will be worth to him a nomination with the Oscars. In 1954, it begins with the radio as a narrator from Under milk Wood , of Dylan Thomas, role which it will take again with the cinema twenty years later. It is during the turning of Cléopâtre that Richard will meet Elizabeth Taylor, with which it will maintain a very mediatized connection more than stormy.
Insomniac and notorious alcoholic, Richard Burton will marry five times, including two with Elizabeth Taylor. February 5th, 1949, he marries Sybil Williams, of which he will have two children: Kate, born in 1957, and Jessica, born in 1961. December 5th, 1963, he divorces in order to be able to marry his mistress Elizabeth Taylor on March 15th, 1964. Together, they will adopt a girl, Maria, born in Germany in 1961. After a first marked divorce on June 26th, 1974, Richard and Elizabeth remarient on October 10th, 1975, and divorce again on August 1st, 1976. From 1976 to 1982, Richard is married in Susan Hunt; the marriage is balanced there too by a divorce. Lastly, on July 3rd, 1983, Richard marries Sally Hay, which will share its life until its death.
On board a flight bringing back it of the Mexico in California, Richard Burton sat beside an young man working in marketing, but very interested by the trade of actor. He advises all then to him to give up and to devote himself only to the cinema if he wants to succeed in this way. Actually, the young man in question is not other than Kevin Costner, which, apparently, took to the letter the advice of Richard Burton…
