Richard Baquié
Richard Baquié (Marseilles May 1st 1952 - January 17th 1996), sculptor French.
Biography
Its own history is related to imaginary of Marseilles, its birthplace.
The musical, plastic or cinematographic culture with years 60-70 in addition impregnates its artistic sensitivity, which it expresses by the means of recycled and diverted objects: pieces of car, tinplate plane, which once associated with words, sounds and images, speak about voyage or love. Thus put in scene, words and object decline of the fragments of personal history while questioning “the history of daily metaphysics”.
Serious and facetious at the same time, the whole of the work of Richard Baquié plays with the commonplaces and the commonplaces, recovers, mixes, diverts materials, the objects and the words, their forms, their property and their direction. Using with full association, the assembly, the joining and the discordance of fragments of objects and words it remakes a reality and renews the bond between play and reality; the poverty of materials, their character of industrial waste reveal an attachment at the city, place of the meeting between nature and the artifice, of the intersection of the cultures and times, therefore the place of art; all that constitutes in oneself an interpretation of the history of the sculpture and to become object in this century, and of the contemporary culture.
In connection with the work of Richard Baquié one evokes of course Robert Rauschenberg for the artistic attitude where do-it-yourself and the handling of the reject become act and thought, for its materiology; one calls upon also Marcel Duchamp, for the appropriation and the diversion, and for his more verbal areas. In a maintenance Baquié declared: “I… was always allured by the capacity of the words and the chiasme which they produce if you put them on the same plan as the images. It, for the words as for the objects - but isn't this acts the same thing? - of appropriation”.
The words registered in its sculptures act like the commonplaces of sentimentality blue flower of the rengaines of the popular songs, those whose Marcel Proust speaks in Éloge about the bad music , and who cause of each one of us shared emotions, they revive the memories of the cinematographic esthetics which founds the majority of the achievements of Baquié; with “the coffee of the morning”, Peter Falk in the Wings of the Desire of Wim Wenders is not far…
