The Rice-Eccles Stadium is a stage multi-sports located at Salt Lake City (Utah), on the campus of the University off Utah. Built in 1927, it had in the beginning 20.000 places. Twenty years later (in 1947) 10.000 seats were added. The stage was renovated one second time in 1972, which made it possible to carry the capacity in 32.500 places. Then of important work took place of May 1997 at September 1998, that at a cost of 50 million dollars. The stage has since this date 45.017 places. In the future, the university authorities plan to increase the number of seats with 55.000.
The enclosure accommodates since its origin the Utah Utes which take part in the university championship of American football, in NCAA. And since 2005 the team of Football (soccer) of the Real Salt Lake also uses the ground. However, it is expected that the club is equipped with its own stage starting from 2008. Lastly, at the time of the Winter Olympics of 2002, the Rice-Eccles Stadium was the place of the fence and opening ceremonies.
The stage bore various names during its history:
- Ute Stadium
- Rice Stadium
- Rice-Eccles Stadium (since work of 1997-98)
- Rice-Eccles Olympic Stadium during the OJ of winter of 2002
It should be noted that Rice and Eccles are the names of the givers who respectively financed the enlargings of 1972 and 1997-98.
