Ricasso
The ricasso is part of the blade of a sword.
It is a relatively short part, not exceeding more than one quarter of the blade, and is just after the guard. The ricasso is not sharpened, and is used either to avoid, or with being able to hold the blade with the hand without cutting itself, which is particularly practical when the blade is very large, as on the swordfish S, Claymore S, or others.
