Biography
After having sown terror in the automobile competitions in Central America, Ricardo unloads with his/her Pedro brother in Europe in 1960 and is not long in forging a solid reputation there, by finishing 2nd 24 hours of Mans with André Pilette. In 1961, it finishes 3rd at the time of the 12 hours of Sebring, then second with the 3 hours of Daytona. Controlling for Ferrari of category “sport” (within structure NART), these results - whereas it is just 18 years old - impress the commandatore Enzo Ferrari, which decides to entrust to him the wheel of a Ferrari 156 at the time of the Grand Prix of Italy 1961 of Formule 1. For her very first Grand Prix, Rodriguez creates sensation while qualifying himself in first line, with a tenth only of her fellow-member Wolfgang von Trips, and in front of the future world champion Phil Hill. This day, he becomes the first pilot of less than 20 years to be run in the queen category of the automobile sport.Always in Scuderia in 1962, it suffers from the bad performances of the Italian single-seaters and can hardly emphasize itself. In order to save money and for better preparing the following season, Scuderia Ferrari decides to state fixed price for the tests of end of season. But Ricardo emulously does not resist to dispute the GP of Mexico (test out-championship) at the wheel of a Lotus of Rob Walker. It is during the tests of this GP that it finds death.
