Ricardo Costa (realizer)

Ricardo Costa (born the January 25th 1940 with Barge) is a producing Réalisateur and Portuguese.

Biography

Ricardo Costa completes its studies in 1967 with the Faculty of Letters of Lisbon where, after having supported a thesis on the novels of Kafka ( Franz Kafka, a writing with back ), it obtains the rank of doctor in letters (1969). He is professor with the Lycée and editor of sociological works, of texts of avant-garde, literature and cinema (Mondar editores). After the Revolution of the eyelets, in April of 1974, he becomes realizer and professional producer. He is partner of the co-operative of cinema GRUPO ZERO, with João César Monteiro, Jorge Silva Mello, Seixas Santos and others. He engages as independent producer with Diafilme, where he produces several of his films and some of other realizers. He is the author of tests on the Cinéma, the Vision and the Langage. He organizes projections and cycles of cinema in Paris (French Cinémathèque and Musée of the Man). Filmed between the limits of the Documentary and the Fiction, Brumas is its last feature film (60e '' Festival of Venice 2003 - New Territories '').

In a certain way allured by the idea which explains a sentence of Marcel Mauss, Anthropologue and Sociologue French, ( There is more poetry in a grain of reality than in all the brains of the poets ), certain scenario writers of Portugal, in particular after the Révolution of the Eyelets, traversed their country from one end to another, camera with the hand. With funds public or in coproduction with RTP (Radio Television of Portugal), some make Cinéma militant, but not deprived of charm, others simply of films where the Réel appears with this mysterious poetic thickness about which Mauss spoke. Films made with little money but in full freedom. The “engaged cinema”, kind which includes the majority of these films, would persist during a few years and would leave important œuvrages or even remarcables, some forgotten meanwhile.

Preceded by Manoel de Oliveira with the Act by spring, these scenario writers are identified thus, not without esthetic concern, by the practice of the visual Anthropologie, such as António Campos, António Reis, João César Monteiro, Ricardo Costa or Pedro Costa.

Enough concerned of its indépendence, Ricardo Costa, him also, it follows this idea rather that the desire to change the world, cultivating a style where the Réel is transfigured in poetic expression, in Portrait, Question mark over a time which escapes time, without letting itself encircle by the place where, filmed, the aforementioned reality appears. The Put in scene, the fictional slope, will be for him a permanent temptation.
