Ribiers

Ribiers is a common French, located in the department of the Hautes-Alpes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

Geography

The village is located at the south of the department of the Hautes-Alpes.

The village is esquiché between many tops (Aiguille mount, mountain of Hungary, mountain of Pierre Impie) and is installed at the edge of the river named " Buëch ". One finds there the towns of Sisteron in the south, Laragne in north and the village of Mison in western north.

It is it should be noted that this village is one of widest (in term of surface) of France.

History

The history of the village goes back to the pre-medieval period during which it was built. As of years 900, a castle was built to protect the village, was become important, of inclinations of the village of Mison (with range of sight besides). The castle increases slowly during two centuries before being left with the abandonment. In the years 1000 took place the most important battle between Ribiers and Poët for a hillock, and which at most joins together ten knights and about fifty peasants to foot.

Prosperous and moved back, the village crossed the great events without really being interested in it (rebirth, revolution). However it paid a heavy tribute at the time of the First World War (more than 40 dead men).

Today marked by the economic impulse of the mayor, to the orders since 1989, the village tends towards a self-management and aims at attracting the workers of the neighborhood cities.

The village is composed of two or three small companies specialized in agriculture, about fifteen listed farmers, a dechettery and an old people's home.
