History

In 880, the kings Carolingian S Louis the Young person, Louis III and Carloman II signed there a treated. A second treaty will be signed there in 1178 between wire of duke Mathieu Ier of Lorraine for the division of the heritage.

As of 980, the last Carolingians are replaced by of Robertiens (Capétiens) and Ribemont has a new seigneuriale family.

The known first is Hugues I of Ostrevant (Historical Dictionary of the Department of Aisne” of Melleville)

His/her son, Anselme I , was born before 1050. He is described as Count d' Ostrevent since 1070, hereditary lord of the manor of Valencians and lord of the most powerful fortified towns of the county of Vermandois, namely: Ribemont, Bilge, Grigny (=Origny co. Benoite). Chief of the armies of Richilde de Hainaut, it is killed with Cassel the 2/22/1070 battles against Robert the Clippings of it.

Anselme II , his/her son and successor, says Barbatus , is says also " of Vermandois" because it acts in the county of Vermandois for the account of one of his/her parents, Hugues the Large one, count de Vermandois and brother of the king Philippe I. Anselme II is the founder of the Abbaye of Nicolas of Close, become the beautiful small current castle. Husband of Agnes de Roucy, Anselme II, has at least two wire: - Godefroid II count d' Ostrevent , lord of the manor of Valencian, sgr of Bilge, and - Hugues II of Ostrevent known as " Hugo de Valencenis".

The 1/27/1095, with the call of Urbain II, Anselme II decides to cross and joined Hugues de Vermandois; the departure for the 1st crusade takes place the 8/15/1096, Anselme is there the right-hand man of Godefroy de Bouillon and carry-standard of Vermandois. the famous tournament of Anchin of 1096 of Anselme II is however truth-false very skilful XVIIé S. (true charter " manipulée" by the genenalogist Jean Carpentier, like of Alaon a little later) just like the forgery " was to it also that; Order of Licorne" invented between the XVII & XVIIIé S. corrections will be proven by E.A. Escallier in 1852 Once the crusaders in Anatolia, Alexis Comnène, Greek emperor, having played double game with Turkish, Anselme II is sent to him as ambassador, proof of high regard and confidence of Godefroid. He writes then two letters with the Manassé bishop of Rheims to inform it of the franque projection and the allied losses, the first of Nicée, the second of Antioche. Encircled by Turkish in this last city, it will make there the first a memorable exit of a rare audacity which will release one moment the francs, enabling them to spread and beat the enemy. It is killed the 26/2/1099 with the seat of Archas (Such Arqa).

His/her oldest son, Godefroid II of Ostrevent, known as Geoffroy de Bouchain wife Yolande de Wassemberg, widow of Bauduin III of Hainaut.

The son of Godefroid II of Ostrevent, Godefroid III of Ostrevent , losing his son too early, resells a share of his grounds to his half-brother Bauduin IV known as of Edirne , count de Hainaut.

As for his/her younger brother, Hugues II of Ostrevent , it is then says initially Valencians then, following the sale above, will be known as of Denain (according to Ferdinand Ignace de Malotau de Villerode). It will have two wire: the first, Jean, die in 1202 (buried with Denain, church of the Chanoinesses Ladies), the second will be Etienne de Denain and will have, by marrying Pink of Mons, a posterity which will take again the seigniory of Hainin, small village close to Mons . This one will make stock by taking the name of Haynin , always represented in XXIè century (under the orthographies of Haynin in France and of Hennin in Belgium: currently the elder branch is that of Hennin de Boussu Walcourt and the two juniors by Haynin de Bry and of Haynin d' Aire ). Ribemont is thus lost by this family, passing by marriage in the family of Moy.
