The area of Rialet sheltered in 1944 a hearth of resistance known under the name of Irregular force of Sidobre. In retaliatory measure to this local resistance, the Germans burned the smallholdings of PLANE SAGNE and the CATIE.

August 12th, 1944 a skirmish had place in Rialet between men of the irregular force and two groups German. The men of the maquis tackled the German detachment which was constrained to escape, by leaving behind him a wounded German soldier. This soldier, touched with the arm, was looked after by inhabitants of Rialet. Once the lavished care, the inhabitants informed the headquarters of Mazamet to come to seek the casualty.

In the course of the day, a group of three Germans thus went to Rialet to seek their companion. But while going down again towards Mazamet, were attacked by the men of the maquis, who had remained embusqués in the vicinity. An exchange of shots resulted in the death of the one of the Germans, and the wounds for the other member of the group. They were constrained to turn back and to seek refuge and care in Rialet.

Informed this second attack in the same day, Mazamet dispatched a more important military detachment composed of several small armoured tanks. According to local sources, the Germans hesitated to burn the village in reprisal of the attack, then ravisèrent themselves, either because of the decent treatments lavished to the casualties, or because they were in a hurry to find the authors of the attack.
