Rial (Formula 1)
Rial is an old stable of Formula 1 which disputed 2 seasons of championship of the world in 1988 and 1989. In 20 qualifications, Rial registered 6 points in championship of the world.
History
Rial is the " réincarnation" old German stable of Formula 1 ATS (for Car Technisches Spezialzubehör), founded by Gunther Schmid. Schmid, owner of the company of manufacture of rims ATS is an automobile dissolve of sport and decides to engage a team which bears the name of her company since 1972. This stable will make run between-others Jean-Pierre Jarier then Gerhard Berger. But, in 1984, Schmid must cease its activity in F1 because of a lack of liquidities.Schmid resells its company, and a news goes up from there, always in the field of the alloy rim, Rial. At the end of a few years, it releases sufficient benefit to reinvest in its craze: F1. It urges Gustav Brunner, which was already of the adventure ATS, to draw the single-seater engaged with the championship of the world of F1 1988, the model ARC 01. This one is entrusted to the Italian pilot Andrea de Cesaris. And the miracle occurs since of Cesaris takes down the 3 points of the fourth place with the GP of Strait.
In 1989, Brunner, wearied to have to rebuild without means the single-seaters regularly folded by Cesaris, leaves the stable to join the other German team Zakspeed. It is replaced by Stefan Fober (itself replaced during the year by Christian Vanderpleyn, which will be also replaced…). The single-seater 1989 (Rial ARC 02) forsakes traditional Cosworth for a Ford DFR and is entrusted to the good care of the pilots Christian Danner and Volker Weidler. This one, must undergo the test of the pre-qualifications since Rial had engaged only one single-seater the previous year. Danner marks the three points of the fourth place with the GP of Strait. Then Schmid dismisses Weidler to engage Pierre-Henri Raphanel as of the GP of Spa. Danner has more and more evil to be left the kneader the qualifications and Schmid lorgne then towards Gregor Foitek, pilot of the third German stable of F1 EuroBrun. The results at EuroBrun being catastrophic, Foitek signs at Schmid starting from the GP of Spain. But to leave EuroBrun for Rial is not the best decision than took Foitek, the team of Schmid not being structured better than that of Walter Brun. As of its first race for Rial, the single-seater of Foitek loses its aileron in full support and is crashed to pieces in the large curve which follows the stands, season finished for the pilot helvète… Bertrand Gachot is then engaged to dispute the last GP of the season at the side of Raphanel but must be satisfied with an old frame ARC 01, the single-seater of Foitek being irrevocable. The two pilots are in impossibility of qualifying itself. The assessment of the season is thus of 3 points, 20 not qualifications, 8 not pre-qualifications.
At the end of the season, Schmid throws sponge and withdraws championship of the world of Formula 1. The other German stable Zakspeed will make in the same way, just like Osella and Coloni.
