Rhodophyta
The red algas , or Rhodophytes ( Rhodophyta ), are a great group of Algue S for the marine majority S and for the majority Multicellulaire S (and generally fixed on the rocks, the shells or other algae).
They are characterized by a pigmentary composition with only one type of chlorophyl, chlorophyl has , of carotenoids and especially Phycobilisome S including/understanding the Phycobiliprotéine S: Allophycocyanine (blue), Phycocyanine (blue) and Phycoérythrine which gives the red color. The chloroplast can then be called rhodoplaste. The organization of the chloroplast is the following one: the thylakoïdes are free and do not form a grana (this is related to the presence of the phycobilisomes on the surface of the thylakoïdes), they are distributed concentrically in the chloroplast but occupy all space, contrary to those of Glaucophytes and Cyanobactéries. The starch is stored in the form of blisters in the cytoplasm (and not in the plastid as at the plants and green algas): the starch floridéen.
The rhodophytes are characterized by a cellular organization of eucaryote type, but it is necessary to note the absence of lash S and of Flagelle S (at any stage of the development), by a Gamète male not-mobile and by a life cycle digenetic or trigenetic (successively comprising generations of Gamétophyte S, carposporophytes in the cycles trigenetic and (will tétra) Sporophyte S).
Their pectocellulosic wall is source of Agar (used for the bacterial culture media) and of Carraghénane S (stabilizing industrial, present in the toothpastes, the food, paintings…).
Taxonomy
The terms of Rhodoplantae or Rhodobiota (Rhodobiontes) proposed rather recently by certain authors are discussed. Last phylogeny in date proposes to retain only the term of Rhodophyta (Rhodophytes) for the junction, with two subphyla: Cyanidiophytina and Rhodophytina (Yoon and Al , 2006).
