Rhizophora mangrove

The red mangrove or mangrove-candle ( Rhizophora mangrove ) is a tropical tree sempervirent kind Rhizophora and of the family of the Rhizophoraceae which pushes in the Estran and which can measure 30 m in height. As all the mangrove it plays a big role of nursery and fixing of the muddy or vaso-sandy littorals. Y first being exposed, it can suffer from the storms, but the Mangrove S which it constitutes seem to increase the impact strength littoral ecosystems and their resistance vis-a-vis certain risks geoclimatic (Cyclone S, Tsunami)

One finds it in particular in certain islands of the the Antilles, where its size is generally reduced and where it is mixed with black mangroves ( Avicennia germinans and Avicennia schaueriana ). In the mangrove " haute" towards the ground, it mixes for example with the white mangrove ( Laguncularia racemosa ) and the gray mangrove ( Conocarpus erectus ) (Imbert and Al, 1990).
