Rheinturm Düsseldorf
Rheinturm Düsseldorf is the name of the turn of television of Düsseldorf in Germany. Built between 1978 and 1981, it makes function of transmitter for the waves of supra-high frequency (SHF) and of Très high frequency (VHF), like for the Digital terrestrial television (standard DVB-T). It shelters moreover a platform of observation to 170 meters, and a panoramic restaurant turning on its axis in one hour, with 174,5 meters.
Construction
Ordered by the Deutsche Bundespost, the construction of the tower began on January 20th 1979 and was completed three years later. The inauguration take place on December 1st 1981.
Its architect, Harald Deilmann, used the process known as mainly of climbing formwork employed in the construction of turns of cooling, in which the formwork is hoisted in a progressive way on new bettonées portions. The 218 meters height was thus reached by stages of 2,5 meters. Rheinturm was the first tower entirely made out of reinforced concrete.
The installation of a new antenna for the diffusion of the Digital terrestrial television, on October 16th 2004, made pass the height of the tower from 234,2 to 240,5 meters.
Characteristic
One of the characteristics of the tower is that, thanks to lights encrusted in the mast, this one can be used as clock and give the hour. At the fallen night, this Sculpture created by Horst H. Baumann (named the Lichtzeitpegel ) and composed of 39 lights distributed over the entire length of the mast, ignites. The lights ignite per series and thus respectively give the figures of tens and the units for the hours and the minutes. The last lamps of bottom count the seconds. The hour is synchronized on the signal DCF77.
According to the Guinness Book of the records, it is largest decimal Horloge of the world.
On the photograph of right-hand side one can count the lit lights. One obtains a series of 1 thus light, 8 lights, 0 light, 1 light, 4 lights, 5 lights. The photo one thus was taken at 6 p.m. 01 minute and 45 seconds.
