Rhône-Poulenc
Rhône-Poulenc (RP) was a chemical group and pharmaceutical of French origin , created in 1928 by the bringing together of the chemical Société of the factories of the Rhone (created in 1895) and of the establishments Poulenc Frères (created in 1900 by the father of the type-setter Francis Poulenc).
-
the pharmaceutical branch amalgamated in December 1999 with several companies, of which the German Hoechst, to form the group Aventis. This last itself was absorbed in 2004 by Sanofi-Synthélabo, to form Sanofi Aventis.
- the branch Agrochimie, become Aventis CropScience was sold with the group Bayer in 2002.
- the branch Chimie became Rhodia.
Before its fusion, the activities of Rhône-Poulenc were divided into four great sectors:
- pharmacy,
- animal health,
- Phytopharmacology (Insecticidal S, Fungicidal S),
- chemistry, in particular fibers and Polymeric S.
One owes in particular at Rhône-Poulenc the discovery and the launching of the Fipronil, active matter now discussed of certain insecticides like the Régent.
Its last president was Jean-Rene Fourtou which was the project superintendent of fusion with Hoechst after having strongly reorientated the group towards pharmacy with the detriment of chemistry.
